It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

Finally, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her bow and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from there Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed her side needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

These statements will be the last competing nations at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a sense they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
