The artist has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the MVT, which functions to preserve the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was named the best record of the past year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots played in his early career.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation assisted locations that were facing possible closure due to challenges stemming from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations received funding support in upgrading facilities and gear that helped musicians and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in major spaces backs the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to worthy causes.

Back when Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their record the album, lead singer Cocker declared that the act would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her bounty among multiple good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," the artist explained to outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally 1994 winners they gave their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"The victory was quite enough," said singer Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had rescued two small stages in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in that area and The Croft in the city were acquired under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
